HMBHM, who are we?

Herbie in a HMBHM Hoodie made with Gino’s Journey fabric

HMBHM began in 2016, just a few months after Herbie was born. It quickly became clear that he hated certain clothes — anything stiff, scratchy, restrictive, or uncomfortable. Shirts, trousers, hats… the list went on. (We later discovered this was due to sensory processing difficulties, ADHD/ASD.)

At the same time, we noticed something else: where had all the colour gone? High street baby clothing was almost entirely grey and white. If there was colour, it was usually blue for boys or yellow for anything labelled “unisex”. It felt joyless — and it made us sad.

Add reflux and allergies into the mix, and everyday baby essentials became even more frustrating. High street newborn bibs simply weren’t up to the job.

So, to cut a long story slightly shorter, I dusted off my sewing machine (last used during a long-ago textile A Level), googled patterns and fabrics, and started sewing at the dining room table — with Herbie in a sling and the cat close by.

Before long, other parents began asking for bits and pieces. Then parents in reflux support groups started requesting bibs… and the rest, as they say, is history.

Today, HMBHM creates a wide range of products for babies, children, adults — and even pets. You can explore our full product range [here], and browse our growing collection of exclusive fabric designs [here], all hand-drawn by me (Herbie’s mum).

Because comfort, colour, and thoughtful design should be for everyone.
